Numerical Modeling of water-waves induced by landslides with WC-MPS method

چکیده مقاله:

The rapid movement of sediments, which is often induced by a very erosive and transient flow in rivers and rivers, causes a lot of geomorphology and engineering problems. Failure of the dam with a moving bed, submerged landslide, sedimentation flushing in reservoirs are just a few examples of these problems. The study of waves is challenging due to the interference of several complex physical phenomena, such as the interaction of slide-water, turbulence and complex free-surface profiles. In recent years, the increased impact of earthquake hazards on human life around the world has increased the need to find economically acceptable methods for predicting the occurrence and degradation of landslide. Considering the importance of the subject, the purpose of this research is to provide and develop an appropriate mathematical model for simulating the landslide phenomenon by Lagrangian method. Due to the ability of the Lagrange method (MPS), this method is developed to simulate the phenomenon of landslide, and the system is considered as a multidensity and multiviscosity. The results of this numerical modeling have been compared with experimental results. The results indicate the accuracy of the proposed numerical method in modeling the landslide in a rigid and deformable state.

In this work we present a further analytical development and a numerical implementation of the recently suggested theoretical model for highly nonlinear potential long-crested water waves, where weak three-dimensional effects are included as small corrections to exact two-dimensional equations written in the conformal variables [V. Numerical Simulation of Rayleigh-Taylor Instability by Multiphase MPS Method

The Rayleigh-Taylor instability problem is one of the classic hydrodynamic instability cases in natural scenarios and industrial applications. For the numerical simulation of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability problem, this paper presents a multiphase method based on the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. Herein, the incompressibility of the fluids is satisfied by solving a Poisson Pressu...

Numerical Calculations of Ship Induced Waves

Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...

Numerical Modeling of Waves Generated by High-Speed Vessels in Shallow Water with a Coupled Boussinesq-Panel Method

A numerical model is developed to simulate waves generated by high-speed vessels traveling at subcritical, transcritical and supercritical speeds in shallow water over water of varying depth. The waves in the far field are assumed to be weakly dispersive with wavelengths much longer than the water depth. The vertical profile of the flow field is obtained from a second-order Taylor series expans...

Boussinesq modeling of surface waves due to underwater landslides

Consideration is given to the influence of an underwater landslide on waves at the surface of a shallow body of fluid. The equations of motion which govern the evolution of the barycenter of the landslide mass include various dissipative effects due to bottom friction, internal energy dissipation, and viscous drag. The surface waves are studied in the Boussinesq scaling, with time-dependent bat...

Numerical simulation of waves generated by landslides using a multiple-fluid Navier–Stokes model

a r t i c l e i n f o This work reports on the application and experimental validation, for idealized geometries, of a multiple-fluid Navier–Stokes model of waves generated by rigid and deforming slides, with the purpose of improving predictive simulations of landslide tsunamis. In such simulations, the computational domain is divided into water, air, and slide regions, all treated as Newtonian...
